Art is very opinion based, here is mine. Growing up in New York may have spoiled me but...

Our museums(SFMOMA,de YOUNG, LEGION of HONOR) are a bit lacking. The Rembrandt painting in the LEGION will be my example. This is the only painting I have seen displayed by this artist in S.F. Over the summer I went to the MET and there were about 30 Rembrandt paintings there.(the MET is a 10) I am not only impressed by the number, but by the quality. Quality is my biggest complaint towards our museums. The Rembrandt painting at the Legion is dead in comparison to the others I have seen. I love this artist and believe that he can really make a portrait look alive. Our only example of his work is not up to the outstanding quality that was produced by Rembrandt.

I have no idea what goes on behind the scenes at museums, and I am sure the competition is great, but a city as San Francisco deserves better. I often go to these museums so I feel like I can say that I feel cheated when I go to the SFMOMA and the "recent acquisition" Picasso is a study of a figure on paper. We deserve more masterpiece type work.

I use this site to help me select all of my classes. This site is well organized, free, and informative. There is some teacher bashing that goes on here, but you can usually tell who is just bitching because they failed. There are enough reviews here to help you form your own opinions.
